Avis was born in Wynyard on April 20, 1926 to Ed and Dora Sigfusson. Avis was the middle daughter between Edna and Lois, each a year apart.

Avis married Helgi Peterson on Dec 1st, 1945 at her family farm home. They were blessed with 3 children, Janice, Lorre and Kurtis. In 1952 they left farming and bought a Massey/GM dealership in Wynyard and moved to 5th Street East in town. Helgi sold that business in 1963. Helgi and Avis bought and enlarged what became Peterson’s Motor Hotel. Carl and Jean Wikberg became partners and they worked together until 1975.

On retirement Helgi and Avis moved into Dora Sigfusson’s house behind the Post Office. Mom’s life revolved around Dad and their family and friends. They made a few trips together however their favorite destination was always our cabin at Greenwater Lake.

Avis moved into Westview in 2000. She had many delightful years at Westview playing shuffleboard, cards and taking the Special Services Bus to A&W every afternoon for coffee. She continued to be an avid knitter. She shared her knitted sweaters and afghans with many, many people, young and old.

Her later years were spent in the Gold Room at Golden Acres. We are truly grateful for the excellent care that she received while living there. Thank you, Golden Acres!

Avis passed away on June 14th, 2019 which would have been her sister Lois’s birthday. Her sister Edna Olson lives in Calgary, Alberta.

Avis is survived by daughters Janice McKeown (Rob), Lorre Bolt (Dale) and son Kurtis Peterson,

Grandchildren Scott Bolt (Rhonda), Tod Bolt (Sara), Jillian Madsen (Brian), Jesse Peterson, and Karli Peterson,

Great Grandchildren Aaron, Alyssa, Logan, Hillary, Hudson, Wyatt ,Walker, Connor, Braeden, Quincy, Collin and Ruby.

Avis will be forever in our hears as a loving Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Auntie and friend.
