‘Queen of the Bears’

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beautiful Mother, Marlene Tuckanow, late of the Okanese first Nation. Mom went on her journey peacefully to be joined with her late husband, children and sisters at her side. Mom was our pillar and our strength, she had such a compassion for grandchildren, was determined to beat this cancer but was too weak to continue. God took her home and heaven gained another angel. Marlene was predeceased by her husband Ernest Tuckanow; daughter Christine, son Russell; parents Fred and Oral Cyr; sister Mabel (late Jay Boy); sister Donna Cyr; as well as in-laws James and Elizabeth Tuckanow and extended family. Mom is survived by daughter Dawn (Brian); sons Fred (Lorraine), Mike (Lorraine), Ernest Jr (Lori), Darcy (Vye); numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters Isabelle Cyr (Russ), Pat (Bob), Erma Cyr, Patty Stonechild, Joanne Akapew; brothers Rick (Elizabeth),  Clarence (Cathy), Dale. Mom had the opportunity to care/raise some of her grandchildren Anthony (Courtney), Logan (Chrissy), Tyler (Candace), Brendan (Randa), Elizabeth, Aaron (Bonita), Vincent. Mom leaves many whom she loved and cared about. She was a grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, a special sister in law. Mom worked in the healthcare system for many years, retired and was honored to be one of the Elders of the Okanese band.  A wake will be held at Okanese Learning Center, Okanese First Nation, August 1, 2017 at 4 pm. Funeral Service held August 2, 2017 at 11 am in the same location, Interment to follow at Okanese cemetery, Sister Bernadette and Elder Murray Ironchild officiating. The family would like to invite everyone for a meal afterwards. The family would also like to thank the Allan Blair Clinic team, Doctors Kahn, Tai, and Conway, All Nations Healing Hospital nurses/staff, and the FHCHS. Arrangements entrusted to Conley Funeral Homes, Fort Qu’appelle and Raymore, SK.
