Shirley Warner Obituary

WARNER, Shirley Ann (nee Goulstone)

September 10, 1940 – June 29, 2018

It is with great sorrow we share with you the news of the passing of Shirley Warner of Balcarres, SK. After a lengthy battle with COPD, Shirley passed away peacefully with her husband and best friend, Don, by her side. Born in Kennedy, SK, Shirley was the 2nd of 3 daughters born to Edgar and Myrtle Goulstone. Shirley went to Teacher’s College in Moose Jaw, SK and returned to Kennedy to marry the love of her life, Don Warner. A beloved teacher for more than 30 years to hundreds of students in the towns of Carlyle, Kipling and Balcarres, Shirley had a special connection with her students and she enjoyed running into them and catching up in the years that followed. Together with Don, Shirley loved to care for the many pets they had from dogs to calves, and she especially enjoyed naming and calling to the calves in their fields. Shirley liked to garden and tend to her flowers which often would include beds of daisies and shades of her favourite colour pink. An avid sports fan, Shirley enjoyed cheering during curling bonspiels and Rider football games, with her favourite colour changing to green on game day! Retiring in 1994, Shirley enjoyed her retirement with Don travelling, camping and visiting family and friends. Above all, Shirley loved to know the news of her family, friends and community and discuss over a glass of white wine. Shirley was witty, loved to visit and had a wonderful giggle, which we will miss. Shirley was predeceased by her infant daughter Mona Lynn, parents Edgar and Myrtle and Goulstone, parents-in-laws James Arthur and Aline Warner, brother-in-law Calvin Warner and many aunts and uncles. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Don, sisters Iris Warner, Carol (Keith) Owen, brothers and sisters-in-law Marie (Jack) Driscoll, Lawrence (Edna) Warner, Linda (Murray) Roberts, Harold (Vicki) Warner, Clifford (Ann) Warner, Rita (Harold) Yarn, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. We wish to express our thanks to the staff of the Balcarres Extended Care Home for the wonderful care and comfort provided to Shirley. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Lebret, SK. The Rite of Committal will follow at the Balcarres Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing are asked to make donations in Shirley’s name to the Saskatchewan Lung Association, 1231 8th Street East, Saskatoon, SK S7H 0S5 or at www.sk.lung.ca. Arrangements entrusted to Conley Funeral Home, Fort Qu’Appelle and Raymore, SK. 306-332-0555
