After a courageous 5 year battle with cancer, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, son, uncle and mushum Brian. Brian was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Victor and Mary Starr, maternal grandparents, Robert and Alma Akapew, his father Willard Starr, brother Allan Starr, nephews; Jarryd Starr, Kilo Kinequon, and cousin Everette Akapew, uncles; William Akapew, Robert Akapew, Kenny Akapew, aunties; Katherine Akapew, Shirley Akapew, Margaret Starblanket and cousin Sydelle Akapew. Also, his in-laws Ernest and Marlene Tuckanow, brother in law Michael Tuckanow.
Brian is survived by his wife Dawn Tuckanow, sons Brian, Cade and daughter Jenna (Aaron) and his beloved grandchildren Hazel, Nalayaih, Cairo, Aries, Layla and Tavin. Mother Doris Starr, brothers; Clayton, Warren, Claude, Ivan Severight, and Dale Whitecap, sisters; Eunice, Sonya M. Starr, and goddaughter Alana Starr Cappo (Tony), nieces; Tara, Kelsey (Justin), Jazlyn Starr and uncle Sidney Akapew. As well as his brothers-in-law Fred (Lorraine) Tuckanow, Ernest (Lori) Tuckanow and Darcy Fisher.
The family would like to thank the FHCHS Health Staff, the ANHH Nursing Staff (Dr. Cozman) and the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic (Dr. Salim) for their care and compassion, as well as the Starblanket Cree Nation Chief and Council and Okanese First Nation Chief and Council for their support.
Wake will be held Monday, October 20, 2025 at 3 pm in the Okanese Learning Center, Okanese First Nation Funeral services will take place the following day, Tuesday October 21, 2025, at 11 am in the same location.
