Elfreda Hemingson

Elfreda Fay Hemingson (née Erhardt)

Elfreda was born on December 15, 1945, to Fred and Esther Erhardt. She grew up on the family farm west of Duval, receiving her education at Valley Centre, Duval, and William Derby schools. She went on to study at Grey Nuns to become a Registered Nurse and spent many years caring for patients across Saskatchewan, working tirelessly day and night to build a beautiful life for herself and her children.

The compassion she showed to those in her care extended into every part of her personal life. Elfreda's greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, family, and animals. She was always there with a kind word, a helping hand, or a hot cup of coffee and a chat. Her home was always open to those she loved.

You could often find her outside tending one of her many gardens, a love that was passed down from her mother. Above all, Elfreda adored her pets. A running family joke was that if anyone were to be reincarnated, they would want to come back as one of her beloved animals. She carried love, kindness, and compassion with her throughout her life, wherever she went.

Elfreda passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, at Last Mountain Pioneer Home, where she spent many years of her nursing career and the last three years of her life.

Elfreda was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Esther Erhardt; her daughter, Audra Hemingson; and her brother-in-law, Paul Edwards.

She is lovingly remembered by her son, Brett Hemingson; her grandchildren, Kaine and Paige Hemingson; the mothers of her grandchildren, Pam Bernes and Sabrina Snell; her siblings, Gerry "Big Dad" Erhardt (Marilyn), Linda Edwards-Baez (Al), and Valerie Leier; her many nieces and nephews, Tracey Hassman (Keith), Dallas Erhardt (Paula), Perry Erhardt (Dawn), Jason Edwards (Tracey), Rhea Lynne Anderson (Bill), Damon Edwards (Amy), and Ashley Leier (Larry); and by all who knew and loved her.

Her gentle spirit and sweet laugh will be dearly missed, but her family finds comfort in knowing she has been reunited with those she loved most.

A private celebration of life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Last Mountain Pioneer Home Rec Program in Strasbourg or Kannata Valley Kats Rescue in Silton.
