Elizabeth (Betty) Favel Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) I. Favel (nee Pratt)

February 6, 1922 - May 1, 2020

Betty was born to Charles and Mary Pratt on Gordon First Nation and obtained her schooling at the Gordon Indian Residential School.  She worked hand in hand with her father and brothers, David & Kenneth, as they farmed their land with horses and plows.  After completing school Betty worked as a farm helper at local farms. She married the love of her life Harry Favel in 1951. For a number of years they worked as farm hands.  Betty spent her time raising 6 children, tending to her chickens, gardening, canning, and sewing. In 1961 the family moved to Punnichy as both Harry and Betty had both obtained employment at the Indian Residential School. Betty was a cook and a mother figure for many of the children in residence.  After Harry made his journey home in 1969, Betty moved to Calgary to help raise her grandchildren and continued to work either cooking or as a janitor.

Around 1982 Betty returned back to Gordons to take care of her elderly parents.  She kept busy making the most beautiful star quilts, completing jigsaw puzzles and playing cards.  She loved to travel!  She went to England twice with the Anglican Church and tagged along with family members every chance she got.  She managed to visit almost every province and most of the United States.

Her biggest love were her family, horses, dancing and listening to music.  She never missed the opportunity to watch family members curl at the local curling rink.  She accompanied her son Ken to many chuck wagon, pony races within the local area. She lived her final years at St. Joseph’s Integrated Care Centre in Lestock.

Betty joins her husband Harry, her parents Charles & Mary (Anderson) Pratt, children: Hilda, Blaine, Ken & Charles; siblings: David (Dorothy), Kenneth, & Orma; infant siblings: Agnes, Harold, Johnny, & Oliver; special nephew and niece: Morley (Pat) & Sandra. Cherishing her memory are her children: Rita (Herman), Cathy, & Duane (Val);  daughters in law: Eleanor & Arlene; special nephew and nieces: Bob, Anita (Vashek), Donna, Pat, & Shirley (Andy); one aunt Nancy ; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her special family (the staff) at  St. Joseph’s.

Due to the Covid-19 a small family gathering (Wake) will take place on Sunday May 3, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.  in house #768 on George Gordon First Nation.  A stay in your car funeral service will be held at the same house on Monday May 4th, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.  For any family or friends that are unable to travel “Live on Facebook” will be broadcasted via Rita’s Facebook page.
