ERIC EMMANUEL DANIELSON
At age 105, Eric passed peacefully on Jan 25, 2026 after a short hospital stay and an active 6 week stay in Manitou Lodge, Watrous. He was predeceased by his wife of 75 years, Louise and their son Ken. We rejoice that he is with his Lord and Saviour.
Dad was born to Olaf and Lydia Danielson on the family farm, east of Strasbourg, and was the youngest of six children.
Havelock School was where Dad attended grades 1-8, then grades 9 and all but two subjects of grade 10 by correspondence.
In 1937 at age 16, Dad started 'working out' at a local farm (Nordquists). Payment was $5.00/month under the Government Relief Program.
Dad's older brothers, Rudy and John were both conscripted to WW2 in 1942. Since their father had passed years earlier, Dad, age 21, remained to run the family farm with his mother, Lydia.
Dad farmed with horses from 1942-1944 and often proudly told us, bought his first tractor in 1945.
September 28, 1948 Eric married Louise (nee Lofgren). They had attended different schools but the same church. They settled on the Danielson homestead, growing grain, raising cattle and chickens and always grew a big garden. They had three children, Shirley, Ken and Darlene. Those were very different days but they considered life was good. Dad often said "farming was a good life and place to raise a family."
Dad's volunteer work was extensive:
-helped to dig the East Mount church basement.
-3 years as school trustee for Bryn Mawr School
-6 years on Strasbourg Co-op Board
-10 years as church treasurer
-many years as usher and church trustee
-many duties on snowclub and cemetery board
In 1984, Eric and Louise retired to Strasbourg, choosing a house close to church and open fields behind them and with space for a large garden. Early retirement years were filled with volunteer work, driving for seniors and delivering Meals on Wheels.
In 2010, Mom and Dad moved to Centennial Manor in Strasbourg. Dad was often heard to say, "this was a good move for us." Dad was grateful, in his words, for good enough health to spend many enjoyable times hunting and especially fishing.
Dad will be remembered as a quiet, patient, caring Dad and Grandpa, uncle and brother-in-law. He has been described not only as loving but lovable; staff at Manitou Lodge said "they loved him to bits". He exemplified Micah 6:8: "What does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
A graveside service will be held on Saturday May 30 @ 1:30 at East Mount Cemetery. All are welcome. Following, there will be a Meet and Mingle at Strasbourg Town Park Picnic Shelter.
Heartfelt thanks to all who shown love and friendship to Dad over the years and especially to those who have cared and prayed in the years since Mom passed.
