RYDER, HERBERT -Wah’ansicha inyankahan (Running Bear)
was born January 27,1937 and began his Spiritual Journey on April 14, 2023. He spent most of his life on Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation, with a brief attendance in Lebret Industrial School. He was always a hard worker and didn’t waste anytime in getting the jobs he was required to do for the local farmers in Lipton area and at home. Herbie was admitted to Echo Lodge Special Care Home in Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, until his passing.
Herbie was predeceased by his Ate Joseph Dick Ryder and Ina Elizabeth Ryder, his sisters: Angelique (Ryder) Laswisse, Florence Ryder, Bessie (Ryder) Adhemar, Minnie and Stella, who both passed in the residential school and his brothers: Archibald Ryder and Clarence Ryder. Also his children: Herbert Jr., Steven Ryder, Micheal Ryder and Daniel Ryder, common-in-law partner Barbara (Laswisse) Ryder.
Herbert is survived by his family, his daughter Anita and her children: Marlon Ryder, Cody Ryder, Brendon Ryder, Devin Mckay, Cheyenne Mckay, Dakota Mckay, Dillon Mckay, Hedley Mckay and Petey Mckay, son Wallace in Texas with his wife and children: John and Jennifer, son Kevin Ryder of Regina, Sk. Granddaughters: Christine and Farrah Goodwill, grandsons:Micheal Goodwill and numerous grandchildren, nieces Joan Ryder, Minnie Ryder, Stella Isnana, Gloria Moostoos, numerous nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family in Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation, Sioux Valley Dakota Nation and Carry the Kettle Nakota Nation.
Traditional Wake will be held at Standing Buffalo Gym on Tuesday April 18, 2023 at 4:00 pm, with Traditional Funeral Service on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 10:00 am, in Standing Buffalo Gym. Interment will be at Our Lady of Light Cemetery. Elder Greg Sandy will be officiating the service. No children allowed at the Wake.
