Hilary Springett
April 4, 1955 - June 6, 2025
Hilary Springett of Semans, and formerly of Lucky Lake, passed away June 6 2025, in her home, with her daughters at her side. After receiving a surprising terminal diagnosis, she spent her remaining thirteen days in the company of good friends and family before “going to meet The Big Guy.” She would have liked that coincidence – thirteen was always her lucky number.
Mom was born in Lucky Lake on April 4, 1955 – a 12-pound birthday present for her dad. She enjoyed life on the farm – particularly the animals. An avid reader, she enjoyed school and was the first in her family to graduate from high school. After graduation, she worked for a short time in Saskatoon but, disliking the city, she soon found reason to return to the Lucky Lake area and the farm lifestyle. Mom spent the 1980s and 1990s raising her two daughters, Amanda and Megan Weinberger, on a small mixed farm. Growing up alongside her girls were bourbon turkeys, chickens, pheasants, guinea hens, muscovy ducks, rabbits, chinchillas, geese, sheep, pigs, donkeys, and goats – plus, yes, partridges and, for a short time, one pear tree. While tending all the small stock and keeping a full veggie and flower garden, she found time to read an astounding number of books, dabble in herbal medicines and natural remedies, and walk. Mom loved to walk. Rain or shine, 40 above or 40 below, she was out there, waving to neighbors, humming songs, and picking up rocks that caught her eye. Her rock collection rivalled her book collection, and she was always excited to discuss both!
After her family was grown and gone, Mom surprised everyone, and herself, by pulling up stakes and moving to Semans, where she has lived for the last ten years. Enchanted at first by the tree-lined streets and resident deer, she quickly made friends with many in town – and even better friends with the neighbourhood pets. Even after her dear pup passed away, she kept doggie treats in her pockets to hand out on her walks. She truly believed that putting kindness into the world was the best way to live life. She complimented cashiers, pulled waitresses aside to slip extra tips into their hands, and offered a ready smile and quick joke to anyone she met. She cherished her friends and family – just know that if you ever sent her a greeting card, photo, recipe or letter, she kept it. She would also like you to know that she’s watching you now. So, as she would say: “Behave yourself!”
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Stephen Springett and Elsie Collier, her step-dad Dave Heggie, and her younger brother, Guy Springett. She leaves behind her two daughters, Amanda Weinberger of Semans and Megan Weinberger of Moose Jaw; two grandsons, William and Stephen Faulk, four brothers, Steve Springett of Calgary, Lee (Arlene) Springett of Saskatoon, Wayde Springett of Lucky Lake, and Garry (Gladys) Springett also of Lucky Lake; two sisters, Trudy (Clifford) Robinson and Penny Springett, both of Lucky Lake, and many special friends in both Lucky Lake and Semans. There will be no formal service. Instead, please honor her memory by taking time in nature, by smiling at nothing, by reading a good book, and by telling your family, loudly and often, that you love them.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Conley Funeral Home, Raymore, SK 1-306-746-1000.
