Irene Jones Obituary

Irene May Jones, of Fort Qu'Appelle, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2022 at the age of 92.

Irene was born on December 15, 1929. She lived almost all of her life in the community of Edgeley. She was the youngest daughter of Jimmy and Florrie Jones. She had one sister, Ida. She was born on the farm southeast of town and moved into Edgeley with her family as a young girl.

Irene attended school on Edgeley. For a brief time when she was a young woman, Irene worked at the Royal Bank in Qu'Appelle. She later worked at the Edgeley correspondent for the Fort Times, The Qu'Appelle Progress and The Indian Head News for many years. There wasn't too much that happened in the hamlet tht missed being mentioned in her column. She Kept in contact with many, many people who had moved away from the district. She shared news of their lives with people left back home.

Irene was a long standing member of the Edgeley United Church. She was a liftime member of the UCW. Irene was a steadfast member of the community and was at every function for many years. If there was a community function, Irene attended and faithfully reported the event.

Irene loved her cats, and there were many of them over the years. Every stray that happened to find their way into town, found a meal and a warm welcome at Irene's doorstep. They were indeed her family and her companions. When they wandered away, she worried. When they returned, she rejoiced.

Irene was predeceased by her parents and her sister. She is survived by, Linda and Nicholas Ross, Virginia Beach, Virginia, and their family. Raymond Smithson and family, of Pakenham, Ontario. Terry Smithson and family of Pakenham, Ontario. She will be missed by her lifelong friend, June Kinvig of Saskatoon, and lifelong friend and supporter, Helen Khadekin of Regina.

A Funeral Service will be held at Edgeley Community Center on June 11 at 11:00 am, followed by a lunch before a Graveside Service at the Edgeley Cemetery at 1:00 on the same day. Arrangements entrusted to Conley Funeral Home, Fort Qu'Appelle, Sk. 1-306-332-0555
