Irma Kuxhaus Obituary

Irma Loreen Kuxhaus

February 25, 1932 - January 7, 2026

Irma Loreen Kuxhaus, aged 93 years, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Born on February 25, 1932, on the family farm near Duval, she was the second of eight children born to Jacob and Maria Kelln.

Growing up in a large family on the farm, Irma spent her time helping her mom care for her younger siblings and working in the house, while sisters Alvina and Vera worked in the field with their dad.

On September 25, 1964, Irma married the love of her life Elmer Kuxhaus. Irma and Elmer spent their early years living on the Kuxhaus yard where they worked side by side running their mixed farming operation. Each year, Irma also planted a large garden and harvest time would include making pickles and canning. Over time, they transitioned to grain farming and in 1978 built a new home in Duval. They continued to enjoy the rhythms of farm life for many years and happily spent summers at the farm and winters in Duval.

A talented crafter, Irma enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and liquid embroidery and shared these skills teaching as a 4-H leader with the Duval 4-H Homecraft Club. Irma was an active member in her community, always volunteering her time and cooking skills with Sports Days and Fowl Suppers or any community event. Her and Elmer attended the Duval Lutheran Church where she also taught Sunday School.

After Elmer’s passing in 1999, Irma continued to live in Duval throughout her retirement years until moving to Ivy’s Care Home in Earl Grey in 2012, later moving to the Last Mountain Pioneer Home in Strasbourg.

Irma is predeceased by her husband, Elmer Kuxhaus, parents Jacob and Maria Kelln, sisters Vivian Magnusson and Darlene Eickhoff; sisters-in-law Melanie Kelln, Marlene Kelln and Emogene Hilderman; brothers-in-law Joe Kelln, Bert Seminuk, Arnold Leippi, Herb Magnusson and Emanuel Hilderman. She is survived by her three sisters Alvina Kelln, Vera Seminuk, and Ina Leippi; two brothers Alvin Kelln and Donald Kelln; brother-in-law Mark Eickhoff; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Last Mountain Pioneer Home for Irma’s care over the past few years.
