PETERSON, Larry William

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Larry William Peterson of Strasbourg, SK. Larry was born September 13, 1947 in Strasbourg, he passed away peacefully on September 29, 2022 at home on his family farm at the age of 75. Larry was predeceased by his father Leatham Peterson and his mother Mary Peterson (Bannow). He is survived by his daughter Anna Peterson, her fiancé Edward Hoffman and his two grandchildren who were the light of his life, Daniel Peterson and Laura Peterson Friesen. He is also survived by his sister Loris Neff (Greg Miller); his niece Vaughn Neff (Brian Taylor) and his two great-nephews Gabriel and Griffin Neff-Taylor.

It is hard to sum up a life in a paragraph and capture the essence of the person Larry was. People describe him as “salt-of-the-earth” or more simply “a good man.” There was no pretense with Larry, what you saw was what you got. He wasn’t a big talker but he was whip-smart. He loved his family, his farm and his dogs, not necessarily in that order.

Larry spent the majority of his life on his farm, which has been in the family for generations. As a child he saved his sister Loris from being killed by a pig and in return he survived almost being run over by a tractor she was driving. Which was nothing compared to the punishment they both received after they got into a grease-gun fight while wearing their best “going-to-town” clothes.

He bonded with his daughter Anna over their shared love of hunting. The first time he took her out she got a deer on the first day. It made him so proud….even though it was only a “Bambi.” He loved the Denver Bronco’s and what he described as “real football.” He took delight in his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

His niece Vaughn remembers him as a trickster who got her as a child to try a “pickle” which turned out to be a hot pepper he had grown himself. And someone who laughed after she crashed his snowmobile straight into a tree the first time she drove it.

Larry was a hard worker. Throughout his life he worked in many places in addition to the time he spent farming. He worked for Olymel Foods until the day he died, a total of 29 years. He kept working long after most people had retired because he really enjoyed the people he worked with and considered them close friends.

At Larry’s request, no funeral service will be held. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, buy someone who knew Larry a drink and reminisce. He’d like that.
