Louis Bleau Obituary

Louis Bleau

October 8, 1957 - September 29, 2024

The world truly lost a good one. After a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Louis Bleau on September 29, 2024, at the age of 66 following a short battle with cancer. Louis brought joy to everyone who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and countless cherished memories.

Louis is survived by his beloved wife and true love, Debbie, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in family, values, and adventure. Louis was a proud father to Mandy (Jason), Melanie (Kipp), and Richie (Jessica), and a devoted grandfather to Jayden, Payton, Sam, Brody, Josh, Lena, and Carter. His family was his world, and he treasured every moment spent with them. Known for his big bear hugs, Louis was always ready with a warm welcome. He simply made the world a better place for those around him, from creating the ice rink on the lake every Christmas to crafting the perfect summer holidays, and much more.

Louis began his career at the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool at age 18, starting at the Davin Elevator. His career took him to Earl Grey, Balgonie, Whitewood, Australia, and he eventually worked his way up to Viterra’s head office in Regina, where his hard work and dedication were evident until his retirement in 2016.

Outside of work, Louis had a passion for the outdoors—hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, boating, and soaking up the sun at the beach. Even the never- ending yard work required for a lakefront property left a smile on his face. A generous and kind soul, Louis never hesitated to lend a hand, expecting nothing in return. If you lived in his neighborhood, you knew you could always count on Lou.

Louis had a deep love for sports, faithfully cheering for the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Blue Jays. Hockey was his life—he played as a kid in Ponteix, later tending goal for the Balgonie Bisons and the Wrecking Crew, forming lifelong friendships along the way. He especially treasured coaching Richie’s teams and watching his grandkids' games, always recognizable as the guy in the yellow jacket ‘down at ice level on the corner’.

Louis had a sense of humour like none other. He was quick with a joke and loved to laugh. He loved music, often replying with a song lyric as an acceptable response to any question. He was an above-and-beyond host, serving his guests with genuine welcome. He and Debbie loved to travel, with Las Vegas being their favorite destination. Whether it was road trips to Calgary to visit his “Chicky Poos" (Mandy and Melanie), adventures to Deadwood, or beach holidays, they were always ready for the next trip.

Louis is predeceased by his parents, Louis “Red” Bleau and Adeline (Cleverley) Bleau. He is survived by his siblings Ron, Rick, Wayne, Marnie, and Lynda, along with their families. As the baby of the bunch, everyone adored Lou, and there are many stories from the old days that centre around him. He will also be deeply missed by the Beach Cousins, who all agree that Happy Hour and Wing Night will never be the same without him.

Louis Bleau’s love, loyalty, and zest for life will remain with us forever. His life was filled with adventure, sports, and laughter, but above all, it was filled with love for his family and friends.

Louis’s funeral will be held on Thursday October 17 at 2:00pm at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, 302 King Street, Balgonie, with a reception ‘Happy Hour’ afterward at the Balgonie Multiplex on Railway Street.

Rest easy, Sweet Lou. You will be missed more than words can express.
