Mary Janzen
February 9, 1933 – June 12, 2024
Mary Janzen went to be with her Lord & Saviour on June 12, 2024, at the age of 91. She is survived by her sister, Erna, and many nieces, nephews & cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Louise Harder, Helen Ewert, Erika Martens, and brother Victor.
Mary was born on a farm in the small town of Ekron, Manitoba on February 9, 1933. The family moved to Yarrow, BC in 1947 and later to Vancouver. Mary studied to become a Practical Nurse and worked for many years at Grace Hospital in Vancouver and Tabor Home in Abbotsford. As her parents aged and needed care, she left her job to care for them and later she also cared for her sister, Erika, through her battle with cancer. Mary was always willing to help whenever needed. She is remembered by all as one who gave so much to make sure her loved ones were cared for, even acting as masseuse for young nephews during a water skiing vacation in Osoyoos, and caring for another nephew after a motorcycle accident. She helped another nephew care for his young children when he was suddenly left alone with two little boys, taking them under her wing. Mary loved to laugh, she loved her family, and had kindness for all. Mary spent many of her later years in Deroche with nephew Jeff Martens, and together they made the move to Kelliher, Saskatchewan in November of 2023. She fell ill soon after the move and needed more care. Her family is grateful for the many years that Jeff took care of her, and also for the compassionate care she received at Yorkton Regional Hospital and at the Silver Heights Special Care Home. There will be a Private Graveside Funeral and Burial in Ituna, Saskatchewan on July 8, 2024.
