Mervyn William Danbrook
April 9, 1939 – June 8, 2025
Mervyn Danbrook passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born on April 9, 1939, at the home of Walter and Wilma Young, just west of the family farm.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Grace; his daughter, Michelle; his brother-in-law, Keith; and his sisters-in-laws, Laverne, Shirley, and Marie. Mervyn is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn; his children, Brent (Kendra) and Jason (Jennifer); his son-in-law, Scott; his grandchildren, Kendi (Austin), Jaxon, McGuire (Olivia), Levi (Chandell), Ty (Mikayla), Camryn (Josh), Brooklyn (Chance), and Demi (Travis); his great-grandchildren, Penn, Shaw, Chip, and Roy; and his siblings, Reg and Joyce (Ross).
Mervyn began farming alongside his dad in 1957. In his early years, he also worked off the farm as an electrician and plumber in Govan, spending winters with Conley and Day Plumbing & Heating for five years before committing to full-time life in Govan. He enjoyed farming and had a special love for animals, particularly dogs and cats.
A gifted athlete, Merv loved hockey, curling, and especially baseball. He was known for his wicked curveball and was a proud member of the 1967 Govan Angels, Western Canada Champions. He was twice inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame, as a player and part of the '67 Angels team. Merv and his wife Carolyn were long-time season ticket holders for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and he was a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He never missed the chance to watch his grandchildren play sports and always loved the play-by-play updates.
Merv served as an RM councillor for 44 years and was a dedicated volunteer in the Govan community. He chaired the LMRP pool committee, helping to get the new facility up and running. He was a charter member of the Govan Optimist Club, a Scout and Cubs leader, a minor hockey and baseball coach, and he looked after the curling rink ice for many years, putting it in and maintaining it with care and pride.
His family will always remember his long-winded whistle, his signature sign of approval. He had a quiet wit and a love for teasing, often followed by his trademark smirk, something that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A family service will be held at a later date
