Richard Sedgwick Obituary

Richard Ian Sedgwick

April 15, 1960 - April 7, 2025

Richard Ian Sedgwick, born on April 15, 1960, found his peace on Monday, April 7, 2025.

Best friends and childhood sweethearts, Rick and Michelle met as neighbors when they were children. On the first day of school, Rick declared that he would one day marry that girl—and he did. As teenagers, their love became reality, and they spent 46 years devoted to one another.

Rick was always caring for Michelle, their children and grandchildren, extended family, and friends. He spent his childhood living on the family farm east of Duval, attending school in Duval and Strasbourg until eventually taking over the family farm and expanding it. He and Michelle made their home on the farm, raising RJ and Sarah there.

In their retirement, Rick and Michelle moved to Strasbourg, where Rick had the joy of living right across from the school his grandchildren attended. He loved greeting them each day, whether it was a wave from the driveway or a warm hug after school. Being close to Grady and Everly brought him so much happiness, and those simple, everyday moments meant the world to him.

Rick was an avid gardener, hunter, and mechanic. He could fix almost anything and was always using his hands to build and maintain vehicles, equipment, and machinery. He had a deep connection to the land and appreciation for his roots. He enjoyed spending his time getting dirty sowing seeds, tilling the earth, and raising crops. He loved animals—his border collies, horses, and even the cows. He loved hunting deer and spending time in the nearby hills - a place he held so close to his heart.

Rick was predeceased by his father John, his mother Myrtle, his brothers George, Larry, and Randy, his brothers-in-law Lance Cornwell and Wayne Small, and his father and mother-in-law, Dick and Jean Edwards.

He is survived by his loving wife Michelle, his son RJ, his daughter Sarah (Flavell) and her husband Josh, and his grandchildren Grady and Everly. He is also survived by his siblings Shirley (Lester) Sondresen, Les, Barb (Gary) Hoffart, and Kim; his in-laws Vicki Cornwell, Holly Edwards (Tom Redmond), DD (Dwight) Fichter, and Travis (Tracy) Edwards; and many nieces and nephews from both families.

Rick—a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend—created wonderful memories with everyone he knew.

He was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
