Sir Michael LaPlante began his Spiritual Journey on December 27, 2016 with daughter Celeste and niece Gloria by his side. Sir Michael LaPlante received the Legion of Honour in 2016, from the French Government and title of “Chevalier” (Knight); the highest French Order for military and civil merits.  Michael was born to Hazel Tapaquon and Michael LaPlante Sr. on the Kawacatoose First Nation, where he resided until he attended the Lestock Residential School.  He joined the army at a very young age and served with the Regina Rifle Regiment from 1943-1946. He was posted in England, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. Michael raised a family of nine of his own children with his first wife, Pearl.  Later, Sir Michael and his second wife Annie Favel raised several foster children, adopted daughter Rita Favel, grandson Michael David and great grandson Brett Pratt. After being discharged from the Army he worked for Canada National Railway.  He assisted with the construction of the new mining town of Faro, Yukon.  He worked for Poole Construction in Edmonton, Alberta, for many years.  After working in Alberta, Michael and Annie returned to the Kawacatoose First Nation where they resided for their last remaining years.  He was very active and involved with Saskatchewan First Nations Veterans. Michael is predeceased by: his parents, Michael LaPlante Sr. and Hazel Tapaquon; his first wife Pearl Elizabeth McNab; second wife Annie Favel; brothers Ray and Henry; sisters Emma, Helen, Emily and Evelyn, who remains missing to date; children Wayne, Al and Lorretta.  He is survived by: Celeste LaPlante of Edmonton, Alberta; Margaret Karen of Ottawa, Ontario; Glenn Osmond of Powell River, BC, Bryan, Warren and Lloyd LaPlante of Whitehorse, Yukon; and numerous grandchildren, many great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses at Wynyard Hospital, staff of Golden Acres and Kawacatoose health staff and send a special thank you to Chief Dustyhorn and his council of Kawacatoose First Nations. Furthermore, the family would like to acknowledge Merv and Gloria LaPlante and Francis LaPlante for all their help and support. Wake will be held in the New School Gym of Kawacatoose First Nation, Sask, on Friday, Dec. 30, at 4 pm. The Funeral  Service will be held Saturday Dec. 31 at 10 am in the same location. Arrangements entrusted to Conley Funeral Homes, Raymore and Fort Qu'Appelle, SK.
